Can you help please?

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

Please Read before answering.
the city I live in is going to jump into the 90’s; I can not afford Air Conditioning; I got fans but all they do is blow warm air during these heat waves. I have really bad asthma and it is very difficult for me to breathe in these weather conditions. Going outside is just as worse because I am extremely sensitve to the sun and will burn easily. I live in an apartment on the 7th floor and it gets really hot between 2pm and 5pm. I wish not to land in the ER again so is there any ideas on how I can stay cool during this upcoming heatwave?

You could fill the bathtub with luke warm water and sit in the bathtub, and read a book and stay cool that way! Wear a swim suit just in case you want to get out for a little while. It can be your own mini pool! When you start to feel hot, just get back in the mini pool (bath tub)! Good luck staying cool.
You won’t get sunburned that way either!

Always drink a lot of water and eat a lot of ice. You could also place ice on yourself also.
yeah, i think the best thing to do is just go to the mall or something. theres always air conditioning there and you can just shop around or just sit and hang out.
hope i helped! =)
stay cool

You could try making a bunch of ice packs (by filling up the zip-loc type of freezer bags with water and then freezing them), and placing them all over yourself, especially during the hottest part of the day.

You could also try going to a public place (like the library) which is surely air-conditioned during those especially hot hours.

How do I get rust stains off of a metal sink and a counter top?

Friday, June 27th, 2008

What is the best product for this that won’t be too hard on the countertops?

i’ve used an sos or brillo pad very lightly over the stains. just kind of gently rub. kind of adjust the pressure as needed. its worked for me. be careful not to rub too hard and scratch the surface

——

This site has some good ideas for getting rid of all kinds of stuff. Just click the link & click on the stains tab at the top.

They suggest soaking in a mixture of ¼ cup lemon juice for every 4 cups of water – or – 1 cup white vinegar for every 4 cups of water and allow it to soak overnight. Not sure how you can soak a counter top without it drying out. Maybe saturate a towel and cover the rust spot overnight.

Does anyone know what this is called?

When you’re driving and looking at the road at a certain angle, and there seems to be a reflection on the road (it looks like water). And as you go closer the “water,” it seems to disappear before your eyes.

It’s not evaporation!

It’s similar to a mirage. The heat causes the air to move, and makes it look like a reflection, but when you get close, the angle of the light alters and it vanishes.

I think “mirage” is the best word for it, actually.

——–

it is called ’seeing’ or ‘mirage’. This occurs when temperature gradients distort the light that passes from an object to your eyes. As the light from an object passes a medium (air) with varying temperature gradients (hot air / cool air) combined with crosswinds the image will distort because the speed at which the light passes the medium will change and refract.

Popular examples would be a mirage and twinkling stars. Although the light from stars is constant, because the atmosphere is very chaotic and varying in temperature, it appears as if the stars are twinkling, whereas an astronaut in space will not observe this phenomenon.

It is a mirage as it “appears” to be something it is not. Here is a link of a photo which shows what you are asking about.

Do you find people too difficult to deal with?

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Unfortunately, 98% of the time, yes.

It’s getting harder and harder to meet decent people who aren’t rude, selfish, obnoxious, or misunderstand you.

It gets tiring and I want to be around people less and less.

There are those rare people that aren’t like that and I love and appreciate that.

—–

yes some people. there are a lot of prats in this world. but i’ve learnt to focus on the people who will like me for who i am and respect me and ignore the people that criticise me. there are a lot of horrible people, but there are also a lot of lovely people in this world and they’re the ones to care about. you can’t be loved by everyone but there will always be some people you can count on and who will be kind.

I can’t stand most women for very long. I might find one self-aware woman out of 25. I hate the stereotype these phony women perpetuate. It’s embarrassing being categorized as a woman because a lot of women are such controlling, know-it-all, self centered, fake, freaks. Of course, I live in California were there are probably more freaks per capita. But, yes, I’d rather live out here alone with my family on the farm, than have a job (dealing with the public) again, were I have to work with people all of the time. The very few self-aware women I’ve talked to feel the same way. But that’s just women…I don’t meet many men on my own, just my husband’s co-workers and friends. They are sort of pre screened…if he likes them enough to be friends, then they are pretty much o.k. people. I didn’t feel this way when I was young and had time and patience. So, either people have gotten worse or I’m just tired of putting up with their cr@p.

Dry face???

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

so every time i get out of the shower my face gets super dry, i use lotion and its usually good to go, but recently ive noticed that the skin on the sides of my mouth and nose stays red and dry and so i tried to get a better lotion and it still doesnt do the job, the better lotion being Eucerin which is the best… i cant afford a dermatologist so what can i do? is there something i can use? a home remedy perhaps???

1) cleanse with a non strippign cleanser (so this means no high foaming gel’s, and ESPECIALLY NO SOAP)
2) shave with a good quality shaving oil or layer a shaving oil then cream - over a stripping foam
3) get a treament serum to go under your moisturiser, basically this acts like a booster to your moisturiser, and corrects the dryness. One fanastic product if you want to go to real effort is ella bache huile intex (combine this with cream intex and match made in heaven for dry skin)

……….

use some moisturiseres from the body shop. they really work after ive been swimming

Boarding Schools

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

A boarding school is a school that charges fees and where students do not only go to study but also to live during the term. Boarding, basically, means providing lodging and food. These schools do not only have students as boarders but also, possibly, some teachers.

Most of the private schools in the United States are boarding schools (they are known as public schools in the Commonwealth of Nations). Most students who attend boarding schools have to be away from their families during their childhood and adolescent stages. They only get to return to their families during holidays and summer breaks.

There are many types of boarding schools and one of these is a teen boarding school. This type could be a haven for troubled teens and would also help them live normal and more fruitful lives. Some schools under this category would train student from grades 7 until 12. This could also be just an ordinary school for students who are in their teenage years and who are preparing to go to college.

There are also schools that offer military training and they are called military boarding schools and they are more common in the U.S. This type of school could be integrated with a teen boarding school to better discipline juvenile delinquents. Some are purely there to train for future military career, though.

Boarding schools may appear strict and rigorous with their trainings yet they only aim towards one goal—and that is to make good citizens out of today’s youth.

Online Games: Virus and Dangers

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

I’m sure many of you have had enough of having to pay for games that you put on your gaming system. Some of them may get too boring and you just get tired of playing. The thing is, you may already know of the free video games available on the almighty internet. In this article you will learn how to download these games. That’s easy, you say. Well it is if you follow these very easy tips from expert gamers.

First you will have to determine if a particular site offers free registration. Beware because many of these sites have viruses in them. Be aware too that some websites are better than the others. You will discover this if you have knowledge about the website’s support system. This is what the ‘frequently asked questions’ page is for. In it are things that will concern you regarding your search for free video games. Just like when you’re buying a game on the mall, you need to have good knowledge of the product first before buying it. Same holds true for getting into a website that offers free online games.

With these easy steps, downloading should be easy. Be wary of scams that always pose danger. Have a watchful eye on the viruses embedded here and there. Free online games will be present until there is a market for them. And with the way things are going, this is going to last for generations more.

Preparation of Your Income Tax Returns

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

While many have bewailed the complexity of tax laws, making them almost incomprehensible to the ordinary taxpayer, e-file services have greatly simplified the process. By making use of available online services, income tax preparation has become easier than ever.

One of the advantages of making use of online programs is that it minimizes errors, mistakes and inaccuracies.

Assessments online

Online services provide easy tools for assessing tax liabilities. The individual taxpayer does not have to be alone in determining the tax credits, exemptions, deductions or refunds he might be entitled to, nor in computing with the applicable federal or state tax rates applicable. While the process is made is made simplified as possible, assistance is also made readily available to those who desire further help. Already this can help minimize disagreements in tax assessments.

Online Filing

One of the obvious advantages of online filing or e-filing is the minimal use of papers and documents. It is also a speedy and efficient way of settling transactions and tax liabilities, since it can be done easily over the internet. This of course helps the taxpayer file his income tax returns well within the legal time limits, reducing the chances of additional charges or penalties.

Do you think if you had a bad childhood it screws you up for the rest of your adult life?

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

Really depends on the person. Many criminals etc. blame their actions on their bad upbringings. Then again, there are so many people that have had similar experiences and just carry on.

She’s not exactly my hero but if you look at Oprah - she had some tough experiences and she’s mega successful.

If you look at someone like GG Allin - he was considered an eccentric. He also had a bad upbringing - from his father in this case. Dispite this - he never blamed that on his childhood.

Then there are countless others that let their early years be the excuse for every little character and personality flaw… Some must be genuine but however I can tell you from my experience with friends with bad childhoods they tend to blame a lot of stuff on this.

So…. I guess it can screw up your life - “if you let it get to you”

But on the other hand, it can also make you driven to get past those bad times by chasing success.

Either way bad childhoods suck… IMHO.. (duh)

it makes it harder but people with messed up childhoods can rise to greatness or “normalcy” and those with good childhoods can collapse. Statistically there is link between childhood problems and adult problems but not set in stone

it can if u let it…but it can be the motivation for you to thrive as an adult
