Computer games could get cinema-style ratings

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Britain could give all computer games cinema-style age ratings to protect children from increasingly realistic and violent titles, the government said on Thursday.

British Culture Minister Margaret Hodge said the rise of adult-themed games with grown-up plots and advanced graphics had made the old warning system obsolete.

Ministers have come under pressure to tighten regulation with the release of violent games like “Grand Theft Auto IV,” a sprawling gangster adventure featuring car-jackings, prostitutes and drive-by shootings.

In March, psychologist Tanya Byron called for a more robust classification system in a government-backed report into the effect of video games and the Internet on children.

Under the current rules, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) sets legal age limits on games with sex and violence or ones that include film clips.

It rates games in the same way as films, with a scale ranging from “U” for unclassified, or suitable for anyone aged over four, to PG (parental guidance), and 12, 15 and 18.

The rating is clearly displayed on the front of the box in a colored triangle or circle.

The rest are governed by a voluntary industry code known as the Pan-European Game Information (PEGI) ratings. The recommended minimum age for players, for example “16+,” is shown on the back of the box.

“The current system of classification comes from a time when video games were in their infancy,” Hodge said. “The games market has simply outgrown the classification system.”

She proposed four options to tighten regulation:

* The BBFC to rate all games.

* PEGI to rate them, but with new legal backing.

* A hybrid system where the BBFC would rate games for children over 12.

* A new code of practice for retailers and suppliers.

In a report published on Thursday, the influential Culture, Media and Sport Committee of Britain’s House of Commons said it supported a single system run by the BBFC.

“The widespread recognition of the BBFC’s classification categories in the UK and their statutory backing offer significant advantages which the PEGI system lacks,” it said.

However, the gaming industry said the BBFC system would offer no extra protection for children and might increase confusion between films and games.

The Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers’ Association (ELSPA), a trade body, said PEGI currently rates 96 percent of all games, compared to the BBFC’s four percent.

“The PEGI ratings system is the only one that truly protects children, understands the interactive nature of rating games and is the only system endorsed by the games industry,” said ELSPA’s Managing Director Michael Rawlinson.

“It offers a strict classification system, based on international standards and detailed criteria which is scalable and robust enough to cope with rating the explosion of gaming content.”

Why do people have kids??

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I hope I can word this well as it is a feeling. When both parents love each other so much that they want to create a child, there is a joy in creating something together that literally has something of both parents in it. Then to watch a child grow and experience life is almost magical. I wouldn’t trade it for anything even with the ups and downs.

——

To me, having a child is not because ***Insert fairytale here***, but more of a natural thing, built into our genes. When a human finds stability with a partner, a natural urge to have children, most of the time occurs. Although some external factor will influence the decision, it’s all about subsistence of the race.

External factors may include, but are not limited to:
Jobs and economical factors,
Girlfriends afraid their boyfriend will leave and quit taking the pill “to force him to stay for the child”,
Social stature, all of your friends have a child, why not you?
and the one hate the most, religion.

Is there any trick to help if you forget to grease a loaf pan while baking bread?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

If it’s already in the oven, be prepared to go around the edge of the loaf pan with a knife to loosen the crust. If you used a silicone loaf pan, it might be easier, but I’m afraid a metal one is going to stick rather well.

Because so much rising occurs during baking, you would probably do damage to remove it and try to transfer to a greased pan after you’d already placed it in a hot oven.

The good news is, if you can be patient with it, the only damage should be aesthetic. The bread will taste just fine.

Quite honestly its gross. And its not “normal” although slightly common. It is good for your health though.
But maybe not mentally for either of you, your mum might need to let go of you cause your not her baby any more.
And you need to stop depending of your mum.
I really would start weening yourself off of it because it doesnt sound good. Just figure out why you do it and discuss with her if thats healthy or not.

No. Is there a reason for this? I assume it would be hindering your realtionships (I couldnt be with a boy who sucked his mothers breasts). I think you two have some detatchment issues that need to be resolved.

Why is a rainbow coloured ?

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Rainbows have colors because of refraction. The different colors of the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum are separated based on their wavelength and frequency. The color with the lowest frequency and longest wavelength, which is red, is placed at the top. The color with the highest frequency and shortest wavelength, which is violet, is placed at the bottom.

—–

Because the light spectrum of the sun is colored. When you see a rainbow, you are seeing the light spectrum spread-out. Everything you see that is a particular color is reflecting only certain colors of the light spectrum..

Where is anesthesia injected?

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Where is anesthesia injected in your body and does it matter where the anesthesia injected according the the surgery that is going to be taken on you?

It depends what part of the body needs to be put to sleep.
Usually arms, belly, & major arteries. Or sometimes they use pills, or they actually use an anesthesia lotion or spray and put it on the skin. Like I said it depends.

—-

I could be wrong, but every time I have had surgery, they put a oxygen mask on my face, and I breathed the anesthesia in. It was in a gas form. Maybe different hospitals do it differently. I live in the United States. I don’t know if that makes a difference. Anesthesia is what makes you ‘fall asleep’ so you do not feel pain during the surgery. Are you possibly talking about what they inject you with to numb the area? Because in a case like that, it does depend on what and where you are having surgery. If they are just injecting you with novacaine, or something like that to make the body part go numb, then they will not use anesthesia. Because you will be conscious during the surgery. There would be no need for it. Usually when they use anesthesia, it is because the surgery is so major, that just numbing the area will not alleviate enough pain.

Calculate pH? Lookin for the best answer!?

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Calculate pH:

25mL of .2 M CH3OOH + 10 mL of .2 M NaOH? Ka= 1.8E-5

Step-by-step procedure please! I have to do 20 of these!

Moles of acid:
0.025L * 0.2mole/L = 0.005 moles
Moles of NaOH:
0.01L * 0.2mole/L = 0.002moles

Concentration of acid:
0.005mol/0.030L = 0.17M
Concentration of NaOH:
0.002mol/0.030L = 0.07

Ka= [CH3COO-][H+]/ [CH3OOH]
1.8E-5 = X^2/0.17
X= 0.00175M = [H+]

*NaOH dissociates completely there for [NaOH] = [Na+] = [OH-] = 0.07M

In solution:

[OH-] - [H+] = 0.068[OH-]

pOH = -log(0.068) = 1.17
pH = 14 - pOH = 12.83

What is K / mothly?

Monday, July 28th, 2008

while searching for a job i found this term against salary.

Example : Salary : 7000 - 8000 k / Monthly

nomally we use k instead of 1000
k means 1000rupees.
it mean 7000 rupees to 8000 rupees is a salary.
50 k means 50000 rupees.

you can say 2000 no’s as 2k..
got it?

——

Yes, K is thousand but 7000-8000k would be 7,000,000-8,000,000 monthly (because 8000k is eight thousand thousand which is 8 million). If they only mean 7000-8000 it should read 7-8k/month….
