Internationalising Amarnath issue will not be tolerated: Cong

The Congress on Monday warned the separatists in Kashmir to desist from internationalising the situation arising out of the Amarnath land transfer row in the border state saying such attempts would not be “tolerated”.

“The march of the Hurriyat Conference and the separatists to the UN office and attempts to internationalise the situation is unfortunate,” said Congress spokesman Manish Tewari, adding, “any attempt to internationalise the situation would not be tolerated”.

He said no situation had arisen in Jammu and Kashmir which warranted a delegation to the UN office.

“No such situation has arisen… No violation of human rights have taken place. We condemn such a move,” Tewari said further.

The spokesman said the Constitution was flexible enough to provide a solution to the issue within its framework.

He said Jammu and Kashmir is an inseparable part of the country and no attempts should be made by any party to make matters complex.

In reply to a question on the role of the Sangharsh Samiti in Jammu and the Hurriyat in the Valley, Tewari said both are the two sides of the same coin.

“The samiti is nothing but a proxy on of the RSS, VHP, BJP and the Hindu organisations,” he said, adding, “the responsibility lies with the BJP to rein in the organisation”.

In reply to reports quoting the Governor of the border state saying that he was “helpless”, Tewari said the Indian state was not “helpless”.

“We are fully capable of dealing with any situation,” he said.
